Aiding and abetting my junior scientist

My husband thought I was completely nuts when I allowed this:

Yes, we literally played with fire. For the record, we learned that paper and toothpicks are flammable, but grapes and spoons are not.

Really? You can't set fire to a grape? Who'd have thought...:)

We tried a fire experiment, too, but I insisted we do it inside the fireplace. Then I forgot to open the flue and set off the fire alarms. Oops.

The Flaming Grapes would be an interesting name for a band.

Of course you're nuts. You're a mom. Great experiment. How cool that you let him do it.

Where's that great quote I read recently about how eliminating risk stifles curiousity?

Way to introduce the scientific method! Now, on to The Late Show for Letterman's new segment, "Will it Burn?" I love it.

That's awesome! If your spoon had caught fire, I'd have been a bit worried. ;-)

You are a wonderful mother. I was a girl scout leader for years and their fave thing ALWAYS was learning how to properly light matches and then a fire. It's ingrained, best to teach them than have them experiment for themselves!
