Evidence that I am descended from hillbillies

Since Aimee posted her goofy musical picture, I am going to post mine. In one of those blogospheric coincidences, I just received it the other day.

paging emmett otter! That's my grandfather on jug, my uncle Steve on washboard, my dad (and his mustache) on banjo, and some other dude on bass.

Anyone else have a musical skeleton in the closet/family tree? Bring it!

Awesome pic. I'll have to show Q - he specifically recognized a banjo (played by Kermit the Frog) this evening. When did he learn about banjos?

With your dad's shirt & mustache, I think it looks a wee bit like a barbershop quartet.

I love it!

I love that picture.

As for musical skeletons, I haven't photographic evidence, but my brother brought home an instrument from Nepal - a horn made of a human femur, painted red. Doesn't get more skeletal than that, I think.

I am my own musical skeleton.

I almost wish I had a picture, but not quite.

That's hilarious! Wait, are you sure you're not from Tennessee?

We have no musical skeletons in the closet. My niece is attending Northwestern on a music scholarship and my family is taking no credit for her talent(it must be from her dad's side of the family.)

Looks like you come from a musical people. heehee.

So do I, although that talent skipped me! My dad, a few of his brothers and my grandpa used to play in a band. They started when dad was 14 and they'd play in local taverns. They even cut a record at one point and it was played in bars with juke boxes throughout the county. There were 10 kids in the fam to feed and not much money, so it was not only their entertainment but it put food on the table. (Dad was in the middle so a few of his siblings who played in the band were even younger. Definitely couldn't do that with kids nowadays. heehee.)

Even when the band stopped they still would play when they got together. And even tho grandpa's been gone for a number of years, dad and his brothers still like to get together and play. In fact, at every family gathering, there's music. (A few of my uncles are still in bands now.)

Thanks for asking that question... It was a great thing to think about.
