The eyes have it

The other night while we were watching TV, a mascara commercial came on and my husband said, with equal parts incredulity and disgust, "Who wears that stuff?"

"I do," I answered. "Pretty much every day."

He really couldn't believe it. I didn't know whether to be flattered, or bemused at his lack of awareness.

Mostly I just thought it was funny, because after all I don't wear mascara for him. It's for me. A little makeup (whatever can be applied in less than four minutes) helps me feel like the face in the mirror matches the one in my mind's eye.

Call me shallow, but I don't see anything wrong with that.

I wear mascara, too. I don't wear lipstick or any of the cake makeup, but I do like to add a little oomph to the eyes. And no, there's nothing wrong with that. At least according to me!

I feel exactly the same way. And I wear make-up for the same reason. And so worth it because I once ran into my ex as I was dropping my kids off to preschool. I was so grateful that I spent five minutes putting that makeup on.

Cursed with tiny lashes, my current mascara obsession is L'Oreal Double Extend. It's an amazing product!

I always feel so pretty when I have it on, even if no one notices.

I look "weird" if I don't wear mascara. I have reeeaallly leettle teensy tiiny blonde eyelashes and if I don't give them a good 3-4 coats of Loreal Double extend, my face doesn't look right.

I've never worn a lot of makeup, My ROC daily lotion, just enough concealer to hide (or attempt to hide) the Uncle Fester dark circles, and mascara. Lipstick doesn't stay on, eyeshadow tends to wind up stuck on my contacts and foundation feels yukky on my skin.

I don't see anything wrong with that either!

Frankly, I wear so little makeup that mascara is really the only product that makes the difference when people look at me. :)
(and my hubs could care less, thank goodness.)

I love mascara too, and even if I only wear that and a little bit of light makeup on my skin, I feel good. I will put lippy on if I am feeling particularly glamourous doing the school drop off!!!!!

He was serious? Seriously?! I just don't know how he could NOT know about mascara.

Mirror vs. mind's eye - I hear that.

I love oblivious men. Really.

Sometimes my husband says things like that and I just laugh. He probably thinks the same thing when I say something dumb about the car.

What men don't notice cracks me up.

So funny! I wouldn't think that knowledge of mascara is so rare, but I'm sure there are everyday things that would boggle my mind as well.

I say flattered AND bemused. (PS What's your favorite?)

Absolutely a compliment. The best makeup is is the kind that looks natural, right?

I rarely wear makeup but on the odd occasion I choose to get "dolled up", I really only wear mascara and lipstick...nothing wrong with a wee bit of stuff to make you feel like you.

But it's kind of nice that he hasn't noticed :)

I never got into make-up of any kind, so for sure my husband would notice. Only 'cause it would surely be garish and all wrong.

Eye am with you on the mascara wearing.
